About Goddess Sri. Lakshmi and Sri. Lakshmi Sahasranamam
Goddess Sri. Lakshmi is the divine consort of Lord Vishnu, the sustainer of the universe. She is the embodiment of wealth, fortune, abundance, beauty and auspiciousness, playing a vital role in maintaining the balance and harmony across creation.
She is often depicted seated or standing on a lotus flower, a symbol of spiritual purity. The lotus floats on the cosmic waters, which represent eternal divine order, purity, and sustenance. She is portrayed with four hands, each symbolising dharma (righteousness), artha (wealth), kama (desire), and moksha (liberation).
While she blesses devotees with material prosperity, she also nurtures inner peace and well-being. The name Lakshmi is derived from Lakshya, meaning goal or aim, signifying that she provides the resources and grace required to reach one’s higher aspirations.
Sri Lakshmi Sahasranamam is a revered hymn that consists of 1000 names (sahasra = thousand, namam = name) that glorify the many aspects of Goddess Lakshmi. Each one of the names reflects her attributes, such as beauty, compassion, power, virtues, and roles in sustaining the universe. Some of the benefits of chanting Sri. Lakshmi Saharanamam are material prosperity, mental peace, spiritual progress, purification of negative karma and thoughts, and protection from unseen obstacles and harm. Chanting the Sri. Lakshmi Sahasranamam is not just a devotional practice, but it helps align oneself with higher values and divine harmony.
